According to CoinDesk citing four informed sources, UK fintech company Revolut plans to issue its own stablecoin. Two insiders revealed that the company has made significant progress in creating stablecoins.

Revolut, which provides cryptocurrency trading services, has 45 million users worldwide and obtained a UK banking license in July of this year. The company announced last month that it would provide liquidity to its employees through a secondary stock issuance, with a valuation of $45 billion.

When asked about its stablecoin plan, a spokesperson for Revolut stated that the company hopes to expand its cryptocurrency products and adopt a compliance first approach to become a safe haven for the entire cryptocurrency community. The spokesperson stated in an email:

Cryptocurrency is an important component of our borderless banking philosophy, and we have a clear mission to become the safest and most convenient provider of encrypted asset services

The stablecoin field is currently dominated by Tether's USDT, with a market value of approximately $119 billion, followed by Circle's USDC, with a market value of approximately $35.4 billion. Payment giant PayPal has been issuing its own stablecoin PYUSD since August last year, while blockchain company Ripple plans to join this market in the coming weeks. Cryptocurrency custodian BitGo announced plans yesterday to launch the US dollar stablecoin USDS.

The value of stablecoins is linked to real-world assets, and issuers typically purchase government issued bonds to support their value, providing them with a stable source of interest income and substantial profits. Tether stated in its quarterly report released in July this year that its net profit for the first half of the year reached a record high of $5.2 billion.

This trend may also be driven to some extent by the preliminary guidelines for cryptocurrency issued by Europe in the form of the Crypto Asset Market Act (MiCA) regulatory framework.
